About Southwest Detroit Chargway

Who We Are

The Southwest Detroit Chargeway is a resident-led scattered site network of parks that will beautify our neighborhood, increase neighborhood connectivity and walkability while helping solve needs that residents have expressed around mobility, parking, and traffic violence.

The Southwest Chargeway was born from Charge Up Detroit: an initiative hosted by Southwest Detroit Environmental Vision, that gives residents the opportunity to be in CHARGE of future development in their own neighborhood.

Our Goal

Our goal is to facilitate resident’s vision for vacant land in their neighborhood and to ensure that neighbors will continue to have a say in the use of their land for generations to come through community ownership models.

David Harvey, Right to the City

“The right to the city is not merely a right of access to what already exists, but a right to change it after our heart’s desire…The freedom to make and remake our cities and ourselves is, I want to argue,...the most precious yet most neglected of our human rights.”
